I agree with the slug theory...I've found plenty of them over the years. Odd to be in a solid roll of BU quarters...but possible I suppose. As with the others...pictures are needed.

OK, Meow still cannot find the USB Cat Camera still. It is lost in the Cat Hoard. So, the best Meow can do for now is a lame picture from the Cat Phone.

And by the way, a magnet does not stick to it.

It is super odd that it was in a BU roll. Meow got 10 rolls a few days ago, and 20 rolls about a month ago all from the same bank. Meow just decided to open one as all but one roll would not fit in the tin Meow was going to store them in. So one odd roll would not fit, and it was Heads/Heads so Meow just opened it. All totally BU Crossing the Delaware quarters in the roll, but the one super obvious one without any reeding.

Maybe Meow will just buy another Cat Camera. Then, it will be found. As Meow just found a box of mixed coin tubes Meow forgot Meow had.

Sounds very much like an unstruck planchet to me:
    • upset rim (so not a blank)
    • smaller diameter (the diameter increases slightly as metal is forced outward against the collar)
    • fine scratches on the surface (which haven't been obliterated by a die strike)
    Great find!

Looking at them I would say that’s very possible.

Checks all the boxes. Could not be worth much, as every quarter made since 1965 had a chance of letting one like it slip by.

That's an interesting find in a new roll of BU quarters. Is @MeowtheKitty now tempted to open the other rolls and see if there might be more cool finds?

Thinking about it. Maybe Meow will just see if Meow can feel for a small coin the roll while still wrapped. Smashed bigger quarters are really easy to spot in the wrapped roll, but a smaller coin must be a lot harder.

Meow did not know that it would be smaller, and so scratchy.

The only way a Planchet becomes smaller is after going thru the upsetting mill. Does Meow have a photo of the third side?

No, Meow cant do that. As the coin is already in a holder. And Cat Phone pictures are not good.

So it's a planchet. What's the big deal?

OK, so Meow took a look at the rest of the rolls. Meow thinks there is not another smaller coin in the rolls. Too bad Meow did not take a good look at the wrapper on that special roll to know what it looked like. Meow just opened a cupboard in the Cat Hoard to find a total of 90 rolls of that issue. Meow is not in the mood right now to look through those. Besides, they are neatly tucked away in tins.
