Hey everyone! New thread here. Please post those Lincoln Memorial Cents. Thanks, and enjoy your marvelous Monday! Let's see how creative we can get. I'll go first:
1982 was the changeover year from bronze to zinc. These sets were offered at every little coin show in the early to mid 1980s.
This coin is a Doubled Die cent oddity on the obverse. Small date over large date and D/D mint mark. At one time was about $500 range. Some how it is thought that only about a few hundred were minted before the operators noticed and shut it down to replace the strange doubled obverse die. Somehow the already minted ones escaped the mint. When they started appearing, some dealers said they were fakes. An eBay seller in Colorado offered a group of them at a good price to me so I bought them. Then most people on the old coin group said they were fake. I sent a couple to the major graders, PCGS,NGC, ICG, etc. and all came back verified. I took one to dealer and he said fake, even the PCGS and NGC. So I intend to sell a few off this year myself, Jim Sometimes, big time graders are wrong. Jim
