The battle scene specifically portrays the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aljubarrota" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aljubarrota" rel="nofollow">Battle of Aljubarrota</a>. In addition to the composite image, and large images of the obverse and reverse, I'm posting a picture of the medal with a Lincoln cent for size comparison.
