I thought you all might enjoy these. The Justin II is quite rare and hard to locate in choice condition. It was only struck in Theopolis/Antioch during years one and two. These are normally found in very grungy condition with terrible strikes. This one is fully struck with great dies and a very solid and large flan. I must have been the only one that noticed it in a CNG electronic auction as it went for a most advantageous bid. I think folks might only have glance at the obverse and assumed it was a Justinian I as the dies are Justinian I's. The key is the reverse with a year "I" which of course was never minted as regnal dating didn't start in Justinian's reign till year XIII in Theopolis/Antioch. The other option is that other Byzantine collectors missed the auction all together. I have been hunting for a lot of years for this one and was very happy to add it to my collection.

I was fortunate as about two months laterI pick up a half follis of this type which in my opinion is much scarcer than the follis. It was struck with the Justinian follis dies both obverse and reverse, therefore, much of the legend is missing.

The second piece is an early Carthage mint with a very special obverse face right with the chi-roh. Quite scarce. I just love the patina.

The final is a follis of Maurice Tiberius with what I call the Alfred E. Newman, "What me Worry" look. Fun piece. Maurice Tiberius coinage seems a bargain to me as they seem to be much more reasonably priced, and offer a wide range of styles. Have a great weekend everyone.
