It does have a "nominal" face value of one million dollars. They could have just bought a pack of gum and gotten back change.

They probably would have gotten back US Presidential Dollars as change.
Then what would they have done ?? LOL

Well, in order to use that "coin" for a cash payment, you would have had to move it from Berlin to some place in Canada. In your carry-on luggage? ;)

The Remmo family clan, by the way, has been involved in various criminal activities. In July they "lost" real estate worth almost €10m that was confiscated. But in this particular case it will be difficult to prove that they, i.e. the accused individuals, were actually involved.

Yep, that will be the big problem - apparently it is a question of "honor" among these people to not say a word to the police. Another issue is that this is a juvenile court case due to the age of three of the four.

But this spectacular case has helped, I think, making people (also in police and politics) more aware of these crime clans. A few houses and expensive cars have already been confiscated ...

Well it was a God ugly coin. Glad it was not not the AV 1000 Mohur from the Mughal Empire, which Emperor Jahangir had struck for his court jester in 1605. That massive coin weighed 35 pounds, would be a shame to damage such a treasure. He also had a second one made for his fav. wife. Wonder why he would not have had one for his coll.?????
