Cannot offer a story, but my first thought would be that one represents the sun.

And as the Semeuse has been shown here a few times, let me add this series. This was a "gold and silver at face" series with various versions of the sower. This (embedded) image shows a few gold pieces:

If you look at just one piece, well, the "modernized" sower may not be that appealing. But more or all turn this into a nice "sower in motion" series ...

The Greek 20 drachmai (military regime) coin shows the moon goddess Selene by the way. That reverse design was used on earlier Greek 20 drachmai pieces before.

As for who is depicted on the Polish 5 złotych coin, very often you will come across a description referring to Queen Jadwiga. Well, the designer Antoni Madeyski also did a Jadwiga sculpture (actually a sarcophagus), but that woman is a personification of Poland or maybe the republic. :)

Hi, thanks for the great info. And great coin pics. I still find myself buying coins for this collection.:) Just got this one the other day, after reading SiberianMan' French coins thread... I just love these female type coins and medals. Good day to all... french1centime 003.JPG french1centime 005.JPG
