During my two years as an army draftee, I was stationed at Fort Bragg's 82nd Airborne Divisions Staff Judge Advocate's office because they found out that I would type. My assignment was as a court recorder to take notes on Special Court-martials. In 1970, Colonel Greer, Brigade Commander of the 4th Brigade, called me to get my stuff together and go to an apartment and take notes. I had no clue what was going on. When I got there, there had to be over 30 to 40 MPs and other law enforcement officers all around and in the apartment. They were picking up things and setting them down. I asked one of the MPs what was going on. He told me that some army captain and his family had been attacked by drugies, killing the wife and two kids and wounding the father. I took notes on the proceedings and returned to my office. I was told to keep my trap shut about what I saw. What I saw was 20-30 people walking all over the house picking up stuff and dropping them. It had been raining and they had brought mud and dirt and all sorts of stuff in the house. That was in February 1970. This was the Captain Jeffrey Macdonald. I was honorably discharged in June 1970. I had been told the information was confidential and not to share it with anyone. Of course, I told my wife. I don't know why they didn't want me to say anything. It was on all 3 channels. There's a lot more to the story, but to this day, I can't believe they could find any evidence in the room that everyone was walking around and picking up and dropping things. He's probably guilty, but he was a butthead and they wanted to get him. His father-in-law paid lawyers up to a million dollars trying to get him.
