If you can accurately give me one example of fair that exists in the real world and not in the world of frictionless pulleys I will be very impressed. Personally I can't think of even one. In my personal experience anytime I hear someone say something is not fair my mind interprets it to mean the person using the phrase not fair is simply saying I want more.

And that scenario has been occurring for longer than I have been alive. And I doubt it will ever stop. But it is not that the older, more knowledgeable collectors ignore the newcomers to the hobby, it is that the newcomers ignore the older, more knowledgeable collectors and the advice they give them.

Now of course I am not saying this is true in every single case, far from it. But it sure does happen a lot. All you have to do to see is read this forum. Countless numbers of times newcomers to the hobby will flat out say - I'm not doing that ! - after being told by experienced people how to avoid being taken advantage of by the unscrupulous. You see, no one can ever take advantage of you unless you yourself allow them to do so.

So while I understand what you are saying about the "tough luck" attitude, there are many times when that attitude is all to well deserved by those receiving it for their failure to heed friendly and very valuable advice previously given them. That's the thing about advice, it's only good if you take it.

I hear where you are coming from but I think that there are many new guys who simply trust the system to be reasonably fair only to find out too late it is far from. Before they talk to anyone about how to buy.

Yeah, and that's true of virtually everything, not just the coin hobby. People cannot be protected from themselves Vic, it simply can't be done. Even in today's world with all of the technological advantages available to them people still won't use them. People still refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Instead, when they are taken advantage of, they will cry and scream and claim it's the bad guy's fault when in reality it is their own fault.

So he re-registers with all new info (new id, bank, isp) and he is good to go.

And no matter what we do, or advice we give, sooner or later those new buyers are going to make that bad purchase choice and get burned. Some will be smart enough to chalk it up to experience and continue, and some will get upset and leave in a huff. You can't absolutely protect people from making bad decisions, and most people will NOT learn except from making their own mistakes.

Or I want things MY way.

No jesting. A lot of new collectors start buying and thinking they are getting a great deal off ebay from unscrupulous sellers. Then they find a site like this and post a "how did I do thread" - well, maybe they can still return them. The good sellers with good pictures this should not impact. And yes there are some buyers just as bad - and that too can have lots of hassles for a good seller.
