Making sure my dimes were American and not Canadian and seen this. Is it man made or some weird mint error?

It looks like post mint damage.

I thought it was. How would someone get the silver over the numbers?

If you look at the back side you can see it was hit heavily on the edges and damaged.

The front side has worn down and metal pushed around the edge.
Don't think of how it "can't" be damage, try to think of how the entire thing may have happened. There are infinite possibilities.

Coins are far from indestructible. They get mauled on parking lots, in washing machines and dryers and by busy little hands with nothing better to do than take power tools and vises to them.

I never thought it couldn't be damaged that is what I thought was wrong with it to begin with. Can't see it in the photos but there is a line where it looks like someone tried to cut it. However, I was just curious as to how print on the coin can get covered up.

Silver is soft. Imagine 2 drunks saying my truck can stop on a dime with these new CT brakes....and the other says prove it, and it does stop on the dime and smears it for a distance, anything can move coin metal although Cu-Ni is harder than the others.
