Malay States - Terengganu. 1907 Soon Teck Gongsi (Soon Teck guild/ Company). Tin Jokoh. Bearing Chinese, English and Jawi legends. Punchmarked with a Wee "黄" mark. Scarce. The Terengganu Sultanate officially allowed the Chinese locals to issue their own coinage system for use within their own communities. Each guild then used tin to issue coinage such as these for use within their communities such as for gambling as well as medium of trade. Although functioning as pseudo-currencies cum tokens, they were exchangeable for legal tender currencies and commodities including silver. Given the limited circulation and small size of the Chinese community in Terengganu, needless to say these were very Scarce if not rare.
