@physics-fan3.14 @ldhair @johnmilton Thank you all for your replies. Since my original post I was doing some searching on Google for "General Sherman Medals" and ran across a listing on WorthPoint with a matching example of the piece I have. The link to the WorthPoint listing is the following: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/early-medal-honoring-william-tecumseh-106155902 The description provided on WorthPoint only gives basic information about the design and anecdotal information about when it was issued and for what purpose. WorthPoint also mentioned to go to Ebay and look at "TE Collectibles", which I did, but was unable to locate this example. While fishing around on Ebay I did find an example of this that was uniface. Here's the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Civil-War-Era-Major-General-William-T-Sherman-Medal-Brass-30mm-Uniface-/124075337820?hash=item1ce377685c%3Ag%3AK-0AAOSwsQJeL1TC&nma=true&si=O75aK2GOaNVSBmyaLuSPo7L37nU%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 The above example sold on Ebay on February 8th, 2020 (relatively recently) for $99.95. Again, note that the example sold was a uniface item. All of the above information leads me to think that this is similar to Civil War Store Card tokens and Patriotic tokens that were sometimes issued with a common obverse design and varying reverse designs. This still does not necessarily give an answer as to when and why this was issued. I have not seen the particular reverse design on my example appearing on other examples, but that is a very interesting point. I'm curious what any of you think about this information and what anyone else might be able to add to this. Again, any information is greatly appreciate and any discussion is encouraged. Thank You
