It is just a classic piece of Numismatic history. If I bought it, I would just put ASEs or common Morgans in to fill the spaces. Jim
Where are you getting your mahogany from? I can have 4/4 African mahogany shipped right to the shop for around $10 to $12 a board ft. South Americans only a few dollars more.
That is a good price on Mahogany. With costs nowadays, the labor would be more than materials. I have been looking for a nice cabinet, but a large one to hold a couple of thousand coins. Still thinking about this one though. I agree it would be too easy for thieves to have a handy box to carry, but if you locked this up in my gun safe, it would be protected and handy for me to bring out special coins.
Even though Mahogany does outgas less than other woods, it still does, because it is organic. The varnish on the wood and the chemicals used in making the fabric seem quite opposite of what pains people do to keep their special coins from reactions. Keeping it in a safe just contains the gases in close proximity to the other coins. If I bought it, it would be on a bookcase shelf, with the other wood, open to room air. JMHO. Jim

Thanks a lot for those links. Man, that is seriously hard core. I would build a room onto my house if I could acquire something like that! That is impressive!
