Newp from CNG 106. CNG got their hands on many of these, in incredible condition; so thought I'd scoop one up before they're hard to find again. Like always, CNG's scans don't do the toning justice. The moment I blast it with white light, the oil slick sings. I think it's a great sales technique and probably cuts down on returns. MACEDON, Terone. Circa 424-422 BC. AR Tetrobol. Oinochoe / Quadripartite incuse square. Hardwick Group IV; AMNG III/2, 6; HGC 3.1, 696. EF, toned. 15.5mm 2.37g From the Belgica Collection. Ex Elsen 83 (12 March 2005), lot 105. Real stunner! Very good score! Not that I have ever purchased from CNG but I have looked there enough to be familiar with their images. They do a great job of capturing the surfaces but not color.
Thanks everyone. There was a similar specimen that auctioned 1 week before in CNG's E-Auction 404. It was similar in strike, surface, and dye. I preferred the e-auction specimen due to a lighter patina, having similar iridescence. Only issue: I was the under bidder and the hammer price was $125 more than mine.
