Won this, opinions please, it was cheap. Reverse is a little crude, not found on forgerynetwork. Is it OK?
A lovely coin. A fair bit of wear but still clear definition from a good strike. I would have paid more than you did for it. Congrats Pish. Good one.
I suspect the slightly different look that you see is from cleaning or polishing but I see nothing to cause concern. I agree with Topcat's post.
I have handled more Lucilla's then I can count. Yours is fine for sure. Very nice. I have thought about upgrading mine of this reverse type but I happen to like the greys in mine despite more wear but it's got more legends on the reverse and most of these are, like yours. Break out the old tray....
Hope the seller won't change his mind after reading this thread. Try always to be a little bit careful. Congrats Pish..
The seller she got her coin from is one I get coins from too. Much of my Tetradrachms and 4 lucillas are from this particular dealer over the years.
Congrats again, Pish ... => wow, you're on a spending spree, eh? (it looks good on ya) I only have one ol' comfy Lucilla example ... LUCILLA – SESTERTIUS 148-182 AD Diameter: 30 mm Weight: 25.9 grams Obverse: LVCILLA AVGVSTA draped, diademed bust right Reverse: IVNO / S-C Juno standing left with sceptre, peacock in front
nothing wrong with that lucilla at all, i dig the venus reverse with the shield and....victory? it looks a bit unusual doesn't it? i do have one coin of lucilla....but i'm not going to post it....may break the thread with it's hideousness.
Those who commented seem to think the OP Lucilla is genuine. Look at the obverse rim from 5:00 to 9:00. Look at the reverse rim from 4:00 to 9:00. How do you explain the seam?
It is not yet in hand, I did see it but thought it was the picture, it will be the first thing I look at.
*rats* ... well, obviously you did have some doubts beforehand, for you tried to search the fake database, eh? (Pish, I sure hope that your new coin proves to be a total winner) Ummm, but I'm a bit curious why you didn't ask around if you had some doubts? (if I have a coin-concern, I usually try to bounce a questionable-coin off of a few of our slightly more reliable members "before" I pull the trigger) Oh well, hindsight is 20-20 (we've all probably been burnt on occasion) => again, I hope that a few more in-hand-photos prove that your new addition is a winner, not a wiener!!
Like Bing, I initially thought that the 'edge seam' was "a product of the photo" or simply a quirk of initial (and genuine) striking. I hope we're both correct about that.
It actually looks like the flan is thicker at one edge than the other. If that's the case, there might not be any seam, just an optical illusion.
