My advice is if you enjoy it then buy them, hoards like this don't last. You shouldn't expect to make much money from these, I started off similarly. If you are willing to invest 10 or 20k of your own money and a couple of years of full time cleaning and identification and invest in a good library you could potentially make some profit(less after expenses). I did it because I was suddenly unemployed and was very interested in the whole experience. Typically mine were 33% throw aways, 33% resold at cost, and 33% made a small profit.

I'm not cleaning coins. I'm buying coins I see very clearly in pics before I buy and at prices similar to uncleaned coins. I am making profit on 100% of the coins I sell. I am making at least 100% profit on 100% of the coins that I sell.

I am slowly building. First I invested a few hundred. Doubled it. Now investing a few thousand in better quality coins at a lower price and all I get is hate...and fearmongering.

I am about done with this thread. The vultures can have it...

Unfortunately the advice I was originally seeking is sorely lacking from these posts...

I'm sure that's the case. They're just all out to get you so they can make a dollar or two per coin instead of you.

To my knowledge, none of the people above are coin sellers at all(except david@pcc) , no more than the average collector who occasionally has to sell off duplicates and whatnot. Mostly what people are doing is trying to get you to not make the most common new collector mistake of them all: thinking they're getting a good deal and getting ripped off either with junk coins or with fakes. The fact that you considered buying the owls posted in the other thread highly suggests you haven't yet developed the authentication skills that it behooves one to have when buying from sources like that.

I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with it for an experienced collector and I do occasionally buy from somewhat out-of-the-way sources myself but I spent quite a while studying coins before I ever did so and I made sure I fully understood all applicable laws and was fully confident in my ability to authenticate the coins I was buying. This takes time and there are no shortcuts.

I think someone might be about to lose a whole bunch of money. Pity.

From the images provided, they all look authentic to me. And the seller is well known. Good luck.

Everything I say is meant with the best intentions and out of friendliness.

It is inappropriate to get butt hurt about opinions then ask for more.

    You are being rude.

I've bought from the seller before, they are good. Some of their individual coins can be overpriced though. I have no experience in buying lots but they look good.

Those all look authentic to me, as best one can tell from a photo. I think you are on the right track to follow ebay auctions for individual, similar coins to get an idea of their market value.

I'm not sure what you'r trying to say about replies being anal.
You keep bringing up how you are being mistreated like some poor mutt. But yet everyone keeps saying they're only trying to help but you whine again about a certain reply.
I know "the source" I'm sure a few of us have made purchases.
I have no complaints about your "source" but you I'm not sure of.
I'm not a dealer or a seller (atleast not coins anyway) although it seems to me you have a lot to learn before you start selling. Customers can be real anal when they get ripped off.

There is some pretty solid advice in this thread. I don't think anyone was trying to rub you the wrong way. Do yourself a favor- sleep on it; reread the thread (it's probably not going anywhere- threads don't get deleted here because they didn't go the way OP planned). I think the resounding advice is slow down and spend more time heavily researching before you go gung-ho. If you are posting a good portion of your last order asking for authentication, how do you plan on protecting your customers from fakes when you start doing larger volume? ...these folks on the forum don't run an authentication service. There are services for that. They charge a fee.

Virtually every single time I buy coins of which I am not intimately experienced with the view of making money; I loose.

I don't think it's something that is peculiar with me, I have come to believe it's a maxim. I recently was offered a gorgeous 1741 4 reale, Mo mint and had no reason to believe it wasn't a "real" reale. After the purchase (not before, dang it), I did more research on older counterfeits (before 1960) and examined the coin more closely and now I am wondering.

You see, I only have a causal experience with collecting Pillar coins.

Where do you buy the books to put these type coins in. I hadn't seen a round on yet

You don't. Some people will put 2x2 flips into notebooks and things but there aren't really albums for ancients like there are for moderns because there are simply too many types and varieties and as you've pointed out, many aren't round like modern coins. Most are at least slightly oblong. Outside of all that though, very few ancient collectors would ever buy such an album because there are few nice well-bounded sets with ancients like the date sets and mint mark sets you get with moderns.
