Lower mintage island country coins MUST be appreciated!

    Basically I agree. Although the Royal Mint is not as bad, in my opinion, as the Royal Canadian Mint or the Monnaie de Paris. And with many "small islands issues" it gets worse; think of Niue or the Cook Islands ...

    As for stamps, I see another reason. The increased number of issues per year (at least I think so; have never collected stamps) will have influenced the "decline" or "collapse" - but there is also the fact that in many countries stamps are not really used any more.

    Yes. I've been getting really big into military trade tokens and half is for this reason.

    OK! OK! Pictures to illustrate the point:

    Top is a Falkland 50p Crown sized coin from 1987. Made by the Royal Mint, probably never been to the Falklands and designed purely to cash in on the publicity following the Falklands War.
    Below is a Jamaica Penny from 1928 - made to be used, and it has been.
    Both Cupro-nickel, but the second is far more a "real" coin to me!
