I agree. I will always buy a problem free, original coin over anything else. I do not buy problem coins (I would rather have an unfillable hole in my set than a problem coin). The problem coin would just bother me too much. If it is a matter of cost, then I'll save up for a few months in order to afford an attractive, original coin. I would rather have a grade or two lower than a problem coin (within limits of course - when building a set, I want them to match in terms of eye appeal and grade, as much as possible). That's just how I approach it.
I usually just go for whatever's the cheapest. My Buff collection (only missing 2 of the non-impossible to find ones) is about 95% vinegar dated. Looks nasty but...holes are filled...
And that works for you... more power to you. Me? I'd look at that and think the album is worth more than the coins.
