1960 d small date, another roll. I may have asked this question before but now I have a better understanding of died chips. Honestly I didn't know what they were but now I understand what caused them, my question is, is there more value if you have a sequence of a die chips. (And more than one chip on some sets)
I wouldn't think there would be any extra premium. Those are some nice looking coins with a lot of chips though. Only thing they are missing is salsa.
Salsa, I see what ya did there ; ) asking because I also have a 4 penny sequence of a die crack. Thanks mr. frog
Die chips add no value to a coin. Yes, some people do collect them only because they think they are cool. That doesn't mean they are worth anything. When I was searching $250 Mint bags of SQ's, I found mountains of them. They were most plentiful on CA SQ's. ~ Chris
Yep, that is mostly true. There is 1 example of a die chip I can think of at the moment that does bring a small premium, being what some call the "Lincolns Handbag", which is found on 1981 D I think.
Thanks Chris, chips, no real premium, got it. these rolls are an experience, I just found my 3rd die crack "sequence" on some nice1962's I think I'm going to get a nice holding display for them
Someone must have copied my idea. I've had this 1983 "Lincoln's Purse" for more than 25 years. Someone must have had a couple bidiots chasing that 1981D.
Again, most die cracks are like die chips in that they have little or no value. What some may find interesting is when you can locate several coins with the same crack that grows in length, but you must be able to show that they came from the same die by locating a marker (PUP) that is common to all of them. For example, I found a die crack progression in a Mint bag of 1999P GA SQ's which began at the base of Washington's neck and grew in both directions to the rim at about 5:00 and 7:00. I was hoping that I would get lucky and find a massive cud, but no luck. How did I know that they came from the same die? Because all of the coins had a kidney-shaped die chip on Washington's neck. ~ Chris
I got a nine does that count? (Just kidding I know it doesn't). Going to leave everybody alone and look at coins now sorry.
This 1960-D coin has a chip in the same spot as your coin. And three others. 6 & R E & O There is also RPM's for this date. Small date starts at RPM-101. Most of these don't have much value ether. IMO
