LordM Giveaway #97 (pick your prize)

    Contest status: CLOSED
    Drawing: @Curtisimo won
    Shipped 3 September 2023
    Winner's notice of receipt

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the latest giveaway. This will be another one of my "pick your prize" contests, so you can hopefully win something you'll like.

The prize for this contest will be your choice of an item from one of the following lots.

Pick one of the following lots:

    Lot 1
Roman Empire: ca. 41-54 AD bronze As of Claudius, Libertas reverse
    (Nice contrasting patina.)

    Lot 2
Roman Provincial (Moesia, Nicopolis): ca. 193-211 AD bronze Æ17 of Septimius Severus
(Click link for original dealer listing with images of old collector tag, etc.)

    Lot 3
Roman Empire: ca. 238-244 AD silver antoninianus of Gordian III, Hercules reverse
(Click link for original dealer listing.)

    Lot 4
Southern India: ca. 1700-1830 gold fanam
(Tiny, but cool. As of July 2023, I have three of these. You will receive one similar to the pictured coin, or maybe the pictured coin itself. The remaining two will likely be featured in upcoming giveaways. Note: cat hair not included.)

    Lot 5
Peru: 1900-JF silver dinero, 1900/898 overdate, PCGS MS64+
(In a PCGS Gold Shield holder w/TrueView images. Click link for cert page. A stunning near-Gem example. I'd have added it to my personal collection if I didn't already have a half-dinero in MS67!)

    Lot 6
United States: 1916-S Buffalo nickel, SEGS F15, with "No F" error (no designer's initial)
(A somewhat lesser known variety, I think.)

    Lot 7
United States: 1937-D Lincoln Wheat cent, PCGS MS66 RD
    (Click link for reverse pic)

To enter: all you have to do is say that you want in, and specify which lot you would like if you should happen to win the random drawing. Also a word or two about why you want it, or some other coin-related comment of your choice. Only one entry post per contestant, please.

You may enter on someone else's behalf if you do not desire the prize for yourself. Simply state who you would like to receive it, should your entry win the drawing.

The drawing will be held sometime on or after September 1, 2023, depending on my schedule. You may consider the contest open for entries until such time as I have posted the final result of the random drawing.

Totally free: the contest is free of charge, open to everyone, with free worldwide shipping. The only obligation is that I ask that if you win, please post to this thread later, when you have received the prize, so that we'll know you got it (that helps me keep track).

    Good luck!

    Numismatic regards,

    ~Robertson ("Rob") Shinnick ("LordM")

If y'all wanted one of these prizes in last month's giveaway, here's another chance to win one of them!

Well, hard to pass up another opportunity! So, I'm in again. And thanks again @lordmarcovan for your generosity!

Lot #1 still appeals to me. I do not yet have a Roman bronze, and my small ancient collection is largely focused on coins that tie in to Biblical history in some way.

According to Suetonius and the book of Acts, Claudius either expelled the Jews (and Christians who were viewed as a Jewish sect) from Rome, or banned them from assembling due to disputes between the Christians and the Jews. It seems this was short lived, and was likely done to keep the peace and not out of hostility.

Thank you for the chance! Lot #6 appeals to me. The buffalo nickel has been my second favorite American coin for years, the trade dollar just barely beating it.

Entry post for lot #5. Yes, that coin still "melts my butter".

Thanks for the second chance, Rob!

That coin keeps drawing me back, but I still LOVE the series that really got me going in this hobby:

Nice giveaway Rob! I would like to enter for lot 4. I inherited my husband’s India coin collection, and this coin would complement it by adding my first India gold. And I have always loved Greek fractional silver so this coin also appeals to me because of it’s size.

I want in. Thanks for another chance at winning a fine coin. Last time I went for Lot #1, but that didn't quite work out, so this time (still going ancient), I want in for Lot #2. Thanks.

I'm all in for lot 6. Since @Mr. Numismatist found his in a reject bin I've been searching every nickel I come across. Thank you for the chance to win this one @lordmarcovan. For me it's ironic that you have this as a prize, my fingers are crossed!
