Here is what a gold coin likes like before it is a coin. 1.2 ounces.

A recent eBay acquisition. Many people won't buy coins there. I say, "Good for you,but b etter for me!"

My wife and I collect coins of Ludwig II. He is a rather popular character and his coins often carry a premium. According to my grandmother on my mother's side Ludwig was my direct ancestor through female lines. Official history says that's not possible. I did the research and I believe my granny. There are several holes, mysteries and inconsistencies in the official history that her story fills neatly without creating any new ones, and the family resemblance (both physical and mental) is very strong. So we collect his issues and despise his uncle, the usurper.

Funny thing about that is bronze was not legal tender in the US until after civil war. Merchants could refuse to accept it and require silver or gold in payment. Bronze was accepted as a mere courtesy, so it didn't matter whether it was official US mint or not. They either chose to accept it or lost the sale.

Entry post. Since I'm doing a little research on dolphins on coins through the ages, I'll post this one from the Roman Republican era. Thanks for your generosity.[IMG]

Many thanks for your continued generosity. If I win I'd choose the 1929 Latvian coin.

recently found an odd thin scrap of metal while metal detecting. On a whim I tossed it in my tumbler. Examining it I saw a crown with a Roman Numeral III beneath it.

1598-1623 King Felipe III maravedis. Prior my oldest coin found was a 1718 1Reale. Jumped ahead by a century. 2B46288C-CFF6-43BA-9990-FD0F7B43BC88.jpeg 14F996E9-48D8-4B73-ABF9-607D0FF5EB14.jpeg

You're right, they're very lovely coins. Your post reminded me that I haven't had one in a while.

So... I just... umm... took care of that. ;)
