Thank you. I was worried that the strange “smoking after sex” side conversation would be the final commentary on this thread. ;)

(Where did that come from, anyway? LOL)

Back to this, for a sec.

I got to see that thing in person, and it’s amazing. I forget the NGC grade, now. What is it, Randy? MS66★? PR66★? I know it’s a 66 and I seem to recall it (deservingly) got the star designation from NGC. But I don’t recall if it’s a proof or just a really prooflike business strike.

I believe it out-monsters my own favorite dime:

Say, while we’re discussing monsters, @Randy Abercrombie - I’d like to see a pic of that Shield nickel of yours again, if you’ve got one.

    C’mon, show it off…

Yep. Leaves my PR64 CAM in the shade.

Wonder how come yours didn’t go CAM, too? Looks like the contrast is there.

They are both beautiful coins and a pure pleasure to look at.

FUN was a great show for me but I did not buy anything. I learned a lot and had fun being able to hold some really cool coins. I ran into many old friends I have not seen in years but learned some have passed.

I took my 7070 album apart, (that was a really long process), and had the coins ready to hand to Great Collections. I also gave them the best of my Large Cent collection. It was nice not having to deal with the shipping process and the worry. It will be interesting to see how well the coins will do at auction.

Messydesk imaged a group of coins for me that will be the topic of a few threads in the near future. The guy does great work.

I look forward to your links in the for sale section when the time comes, Larry. I'd be honored to take ownership on one of your pieces, should one strike my fancy and I'm the high bidder!

Ha! I was researching the gold cob on Numista. The bottom of the Numista listings usually show a "right now on eBay" sampling of similar coins on sale. That was the case here, so I clicked the eBay link at the bottom of the page. It was a listing of the exact same coin I bought! I guess the dealer hadn't gotten around to taking the eBay listing down yet.

I paid $2,700 cash for it at the show. Had I pulled the Buy-It-Now trigger on eBay (which I would not have done), the price would have been $4,500 plus $50 shipping! :nailbiting:

Moral of the story: if you see a cool (but expensive) coin you like on eBay, don't be too quick to use Buy-It-Now. See if you can look the dealer up online and do a private transaction. In this case, I'm sure the dealer was hedging his bets and starting out high for the eBay listing, since he did have a Best Offer option, and of course had to think of the eBay fees. Still, I'm glad I bought it in person at the show!
