Cool idea for a thread and some nice pickups for the giveaways (that will certainly make quite a few people happy)!
January 4, 2024. The portrait of Roma and the clasped hands reverse is what drew me to this ancient bronze. It also has pretty nice patina. Bought for the giveaways. Phrygia, Amorium: ca. 160-220 AD bronze pseudo-autonomous Æ16, Roma / Clasped Hands Cost= $46.38 after shipping.
January 4, 2024. Also for the giveaways, a pretty sharp little late-Roman bronze, I thought. Nice patina and portrait, plus a campgate reverse. It is interesting because Licinius II is portrayed as a rather stern looking adult on the coin, despite the fact that he was actually only around eleven years old when he was murdered. Roman Empire: ca. 318-320 bronze Æ17 of Licinius II, camp gate, Heraclea mint Cost= $37.38 after shipping.
January 1, 2024. Bought this one on New Year's Day. I keep finding more stuff from this early-January spree. Glad I'm archiving all my purchases in this thread. Once I'm caught up, it will help me keep track of everything in the future. I'm bad about purchasing stuff and then later forgetting where I got it from or what I paid for it. So this running thread will help jog my memory later. Also for the giveaways, this nice BU Wheatie in an older, pre-prong NGC MS66 RD slab. I bought it from @ewomack on the For Sale forum here. Also bought an NGC MS66 steel cent from him on December 27th. United States: 1939 bronze Lincoln Wheat cent (NGC MS66 RD) Cost= $35.00 total.
I think maybe I'm caught up now on recording all of my pre-January 10th purchases! Time to buy one or two more before I end the spree!
January 11, 2024 (just now). Another for the giveaways- we needed some Spanish silver in the mix. I wavered back and forth on buying this one for several days, due to the fact that it's in a "Genuine/Details" holder (because it was lacquered). In the end, I decided to go for it. Despite the old lacquering, the coin has nice high grade details and isn't too awful looking. And 18th century Spanish silver in a PCGS slab for under 50 bucks is not something I've seen very often. I thought it was a cool little coin despite the issue. Spain: 1793-S CN silver half-real of Charles IV (PCGS AU details) Cost= $41.50 total, after shipping.
