I believe the french words on the reverse of the medal loosely translate to "Glory to the Brave (of) Liege".</p><p><br /></p><p>I did find a similar medal, issued by the Belgians in 1914, made of silver, that was sold to raise money. It was thought that the price of one of those medals was enough to feed one Belgian child for one month. It featured similar busts, but had a different reverse showing Columbia (America) feeding a Belgian family with food from her apron.</p><p><br /></p><p>If anyone has any information on this medal, like its purpose, mintage, scarcity, etc., I would be very appreciative.
