Joe, this book only addresses DDO and DDR coins. I need to add that I strongly suspect that some of the assigned numbers are die state duplicates. As for RPM's, there are two factions at play here looking for IKE Attribution supremacy. One faction states that the 1974-S is the ONLY RPM in the Eisenhower Series while the other states that along with the 1971-S/S there are perhaps a half a dozen more (as noted in the CPG). Personally, as far as the 1971-S goes, I think there are many more than just the currently accepted 1971-S/S in the CPG. As for the 1974-S, thats a tough one since the current attribution in the Auth Ref on IKE's looks more like a doubled mint mark than a true RPM. Die Clashes currently only have value to specific collectors in that no formal VAM Type catalogs currently exist. I think the series needs to be more heavily collected but since these are Copper Nickel clad coins, that could be well into the future. I also know that the IKE Group is working feverishly to come up with something that everybody can use. Examples of extreme die clashing can get a bit pricy as well as extreme peglegs but a collector really needs to know their IKE's to make this determination. Only through looking at thousands upon thousands can you really get a gut feeling for what's relatively rare and whats the exception. The absolute best information currently available for Eisenhower Dollars rests with the IKE Group! I need to mention another Eisenhower Reference book which is nearly impossible to obtain. The CONECA Attribution Guide to Eisenhower Dollar Varieties by Dr. James Wiles which was released in 1997. The only one I've ever seen is what's on file in the ANA Library. If you are an ANA Member, you can check it out or visit the Library and read it. No doubt, that a new release of an "updated" publication on Eisenhower Dollar Varieties is needed and no doubt, such a book would really juice the interest in these coins as the bottom line is that the series is wide open for exploration and research! Just look at the many varieties that have been discovered within the past year alone! The 1971-S Type 1 Reverse Proof. The 1971-S Prototype. The 1973-S on a Copper Nickel Planchet. I did not specifically mention the Friendly Eagle Variety as this coin was initially discovered in Dec 1999 but got reasonably good press in 2007 and 2008. Imagine what it would be like if folks really started paying attention and actually looking through these coins?
