Now banks who were federaly charted were allowed to print and distribute currency equal to some percentage of their deposits. Weather or not they actually did was up to them. So as you said, The red creek bill in question was NOT a NBN, then it was printed prior to its chartering, which means prior to 1863 (the first charter period). </p><p><br /></p><p>Well at least now - armed with all this additional information that you did not initialy provide - people will have a better chance of helping you.</p><p><br /></p><p>Good luck!!
</p><p><br /></p>
Calm down - just trying to help  I figured it was closed. Since the note had the name of the bank on it - it was A) a national bank note, B) a confedarate bank note (which since you said it was from new york its not this one) C) a bank who issued its own currency before the adoption of federal regulations and chartering. While not all bank that issued NBN's are closed, most of them are either closed, or merged with others banks rendering the name as obsolete or effectively closed (no longer operating under that name). Most if not all banks that were in buisiness before the adoption of the regulations halting the production of bank backed currency and the requirement of fereal chartering are closed. So the odds of Red creek bank being closed were very high. Now, since as you said, it was not a NBN, and it was in New York, i would have to assume that it was one of those banks issuing money prior to all those pesky regulations. I did find Red Creeks Charter number (10781) so that tells me they did register for a charter number sometime in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd charter period 1863-1935. Well at least now - armed with all this additional information that you did not initialy provide - people will have a better chance of helping you. Good luck!!
