Little Big elephant headdress – Bactrian Kingdom Tet & Obol - what a pair !

    This obol is by far my favorite find at last weeks coin show. This little elephant headdress was buried under a few trays & almost got left behind. I suspect you will learn from the photos why I just had to have it.

    AR Obol
    Demetrius 205-171 B.C.
    0.69 grams, 12 mm
    Obv: Head of king right wearing elephant headdress
    Rev: Nude Heakles standing facing, holding club & lion’s skin, monogram to left.
    BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΔHMHTΡIOY
    Grade: an honest EF coin with proper centering & all details.

    The baby obol elephant displays nicely with its big brother tet.
