What Doug said! The time and energy involved is far more than you will realize (net profit). Just the learning curve will take you a long time.
If time is no problem: 1) Buy the " Red Book " by R. S. Yeoman. Also buy the " Blackbook " price guide to United States COINS. Just for references. 2) Buy a good magnifying lens (minimum 5x) and a 10x loupe. Also a coin scale is invalueable for what you're doing. 3) Make a plan of attack and follow it. Don't be doing ten different coin demominations at one time. 4) Look up the coin/s you've selected and check for " KEY DATES ". 5) You'll probably have to break apart some or all of the rolls to ensure they're all the same. So order some coin wrappers or tubes. Wizard coin supply is a good, fast, decent priced source FOR EVERYTHING. Total expense should be about $120.00 at the very most. Do your best but don't worry or rush it. Make it enjoyable. You are going to learn a lot about U. S. Coins. 6) I wish I were in your shoes now. AND SHOW US SOME PICTURES WITH DATES AND MINTMARKS------------------THANKS zeke
I think~ CC~I think you have just answered your own question. I predict~the more time you dedicate to this project the better the return. Plus you get to dabble in the goodies while finding the best rate of return. It sounds like a no lose situation because there is no time pressure to dump and run. Since you seem to have been a fellow CT'er for over 2 years now you will most likely not be confused by NEWBIE questions like "Not all of the coins have letters under the date....does that add value?" stuff. Or you can dump and run.
Maybe the old fellow was a closet coin collector too, and had a hard time parting with the silver. Maybe is was waiting for $50.00 spot silver again.
are you trying to move them all at once for a price or small quantities at a time?If you are trying to maximize your time price them as a whole, if trying to maximize the price separate the items.I
