I have found many odd Lincolns in circulation. I search boxes and keep any coins that just look different. Over the years, I've noticed there are many coins from a great variance of dates and mints that look (at first sight) AU, coins as early as 1059. I haven't found these coins in the earlier years. All those "found" coins have a hue that is more gold than "copper red" and almost look plated. I would love to hear from others about these (explanation?) and other Lincoln finds.

I suspect that some of them were someone's hoard or collection. At some point they or heirs decide to spend them.

I agree with Victor. Someone saved cents for years in a can or large vessel and decided to cash them in for whatever reason.

Thanks, guys, for that confirmation. That was the only conclusion I could come to as well. I had not seen them before moving to Amarillo, but I keep every one I see now.
