the weather is awesome. I know you said you're going to post the 'official rules' on Oct 1, but how general can "When" be? Can it be an interval of 2-3 days, or only one specific day? -John
I'm still working on this for sure. Probably give a 24 hour period to post your guess that way somebody can't wait until seconds before landfall. Or make it where no guesses can be made within 48 hours of expected landfall.
Oh, I hadn't even thought about that. I was referring to the guess itself; could I say Category 3 Hurricane, Florida, October 20-23, or would I have to pick a specific day (i.e. 20th)?
Specific day and, just to spice things up, more specific than Florida, a city too. If I just let it be the state I would end up with a bunch of the exact same guesses probably. All your questions will be answered on the first. And if they aren't, PM me and I'll adjust things.
14 hours til registration is closed!!! I will post a tropical update straight from the NHC at 2 PM and 8 PM so you can begin thinking about your guesses. There's a tropical wave in the mid-Atlantic that may threaten land in about a week and a half.
"the weather is awesome".....ok the next one will hit Florida (E or W coast) and will be a Cat 1-3....this will happen between oct 1 and oct 12

I'll post official rules sometime tomorrow morning. After the rules are posted you can begin guessing (apologies to those who already posted ). Here's the latest NHC (National Hurricane Center) discussion. FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO... 1. A LARGE AND COMPLEX AREA OF DISTURBED WEATHER ...ASSOCIATED WITH TWO TROPICAL WAVES...EXTENDS FROM THE LESSER ANTILLES EASTWARD INTO THE ATLANTIC FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES. THIS SYSTEM SHOWS SOME SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION...AND UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BE MARGINALLY FAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT AS THE SYSTEM MOVES WESTWARD TO WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH. THERE IS A MEDIUM CHANCE...30 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. 2. SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY EXTENDS FROM NORTHERN HONDURAS ACROSS THE CAYMAN ISLANDS AND JAMAICA TO HISPANIOLA IN ASSOCIATION WITH A BROAD TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE. THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION AT THIS TIME...AND THERE IS A LOW CHANCE...10 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. REGARDLESS OF DEVELOPMENT...LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS ARE POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO ACROSS NORTHERN CENTRAL AMERICA...THE CAYMAN ISLANDS...JAMAICA...AND HISPANIOLA. ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. Good luck to all!
Posting a new thread shortly called "Lincolncent's Official Hurricane Contest Thread" I know long name but hey, what can I say.
