May I ask why you created a new post.
I dont think this coin would be worth more than face value due to it's condition. try soaking it it acetone for a couple minutes to see if it helps. It also would help if you showed the reverse.

BTW the VDB initials are on the reverse not obverse, inbetween the wheat stocks, directly below ONE CENTS, near the bottom rim. If it does have it then you know your coin is a 1909. if not it can be anything

I dont see any sign of it under 60x magnification. The coin is a little dirty in that area but with the microscope I can see the metal below the oxidation or what ever it is.(Probably the annealing that wore off most everwhere else.

wheatcent reverse.jpg Here is the picture of the reverse obviously some of the sand blasting media has been trapped by some of the grease they use on the die after it is polished. someone must have set the die down on a counter that had some media on(or some other way). then the media was pressed into the coin. Trust me I have a contalk account! Its probably post/md thats why this coin has been saved for so long by my unkle Wayne.

Hope I don't make it more confusing by merging the 2 threads, so people don't try posting on both,

It is interesting, but like seeing the Burger King image on a cent and countless other images. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and this is corrosion, wear , and PMD all contributing to it. Sorry, but that is my opinion. I think it is time to move on to other coins. Thanks.

    Jr,

Take a deep breath and relax. You're beginning to see things, literally. Why don't you just hang out here and observe. You can learn a lot from others here.

centsmacro 004 1.jpg do you think this is some kind of press job?

If you overlay the pictures of the reverse and change the transparency to 50 then pull it to the east a quarter of an inch the wheat stalks line up with the "corrosion'' on the overlaid image. That means to me that the word pattern was also punched there off set of center wich would cause a pre ''collar strike'' damage pattern on the flan of the coin. There is also a protential second strike in that area causeing more word pattern/wheat stalk pattern damage in that area.corrosion pattern area.

Oh my... listen Jral1, I really like your enthusiasm and your ability to see things differently... but please re-read Jim's post #29. What you have is a corroded 1919-D (or possibly S) Lincoln cent, with no value other than copper melt. What you need to do is read up on coin errors and the minting process. Just goggle these and read, read, read. Then hang around CT for awhile and learn as much as you can. Soon you'll be able to recognize true errors instead of your imaginary errors. Do me a favor... keep the coin(s) you've posted, then take a look at them again in a year or two. Then let us know what you see.
