I've been terrible in the past about seeing the difference in mechanical doubling versus a true doubled die. Could I please please get some help with this one? I suppose there's many reasons for why I'm terrible with telling the difference, however one example that stands out to me is the "shelving"- aka machine doubling vs "seriffs/ notching" I guess? I feel sorta ignorant for Still not knowing after being into this hobby for as long as I have. Also, I was a little cryptic with my post's subject title. The reason for this is because at first glance this penny looks like a 1969 D mintmark, but after I saw what seemed to be the closest thing to the dramatic doubling on the famous rare 1969 S DDO, I looked quite a bit closer. I guess there's a very large chance that I'm just imagining this because I want it to be something amazing and rare so badly Lol, but I swear that the mintmark on this coin is a but odd looking. When I zoomed in to the 1969 s DDO penny listed on the PCGS website, my coin seemed eerily similar and the s mintmark on that variety looks almost like a RPM maybe? I hope that doesn't sound too crazy. If anyone can tell me if that makes even the slightest bit of sense or could tell me how far away from crazy I might be tho I'd greatly appreciate it lol.
