LOL when he showed up, the shocked and disappointed look on his face was enough to tell me he was going home with an empty traler.

that's not funny but it kind of is...he must have thought "shoot, i'm getting a super deal today!"

I told him all the work I put into it and the parts that were in it. The rear axle and rear wheels alone was about 1500 bucks

Yes I have separate photos of the key and semi key dates. Thanks!

a very enjoyable thread. When I think about a value on a collection there is much that you cannot really put a price on, the fun of going to shows and finding that one that has eluded you, trading with another collector, sharing stories of the one that got away, or finding a gem mixed in with the trash. When it comes down to numbers though, another collector will usually use a price guide, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Funny about the guy bringing 400 for the collection. There are lots of collectors out there where 400 for a purchase would be about 400 times more than they ever spent for a coin before. He might have fretted mightily about shelling out that much cash before he decided to go ahead. Was he disappointed, embarrassed or what?

Well after much thought and debate I have decided not to sale at this moment. As I was photoing the coins I began to recall how much I have had with this set. As I would photo each coin my mind would remember where that coin from and how much I saved for it. I have photos of most of them now you can check them out here. Thank you all so much for all your all input.

THAT is a gorgeous collection. It'll bring a pretty penny (pun intended) at an auction I would imagine.
Could you throw up some close-ups of the 1922 no D and 1909-S VDB?

That 1919 is beautiful. The pics are a bit blurry but I'd say it would go MS-62/63 at a TPG.

If you look in earlier post you will see the 1909 S V.D.B. The 1922 "plain" we haven't gotten yet. I don't want a weak D therefore I am in the search of the 1922 marriage of die #3 with a strong reverse. The 1919 I picked it from a dealer about 3 months ago. The pictures don't do it justice. It was the first and only teen wheat we have that you can see ole Abe's beard hair! We gave $15 for it.

Sorry die #2 on the 1922 plain. Sorry just realized what I had put. Not uncommon for me.

They are just some colorized 2009's tht we bought a while ago. Got them off eBay from Vernon coin I believe. I just stuck them on the back page of album with other various Lincoln's.

Glad you decided not to sell just yet. The "collector instinct" in some of us is stronger than the "dealer instinct." :smile

Looks beautiful man. Those colorized ones are nice collectible pieces in my view as well, I need to get me some.

Yes they not expensive. I think $1-2 a cent. Plus they look neat I think.
