I don't care for either, but if I absolutely had to choose one I guess I'd go with Lincoln.

More fodder for the debate ...

My best Matte Proof Lincoln (PR66BN), Mirror Proof Lincoln (PR67BN), and Mirror Proof Jefferson (PR67) ...

That's some lovely fodder you got there :D. If all the Lincoln proofs were struck in matte proof I'd have to go with them, but sadly they're not, so for me it's Jefferson.

I agree with you about Matte Proofs!

One thing I never liked about the Jefferson Nickel was the date curling around the rim almost sideways ...

I like dates oriented with the bottom down, say at the very bottom of the obverse, below the figure ... or off to the side but straight across the coin (as on the lincoln cent).

I also like the fact that there is more history with the Lincoln Cent, probably because its been minted for an additional 30 years. Who doesnt love the 1909 VDB story, or the 1922 Plain story, or the 1943 Steel, or the 1955 double die, or the Matte Proof Lincoln story.

The Jefferson has the War Nickel story, and maybe the 1950-D price spike and collapse, but I can't think of much else that interesting (others might object).

I think the Lincoln is more widely collected, many (most?) of us cut out teeth on Lincoln Collections. And let's face it, copper just tones more often and generally prettier than nickel.

I do agree that it's sad the mint let the dies wear so much as some of those early Matte Proofs show just how gorgeous and detailed the design was back in the day.

Some advantages of the Jefferson is it's easier (cheaper) to put together a full set, and there are many fewer coins needed.

I don't understand how Jefferson isn't pummeling Lincoln.

    How Jefferson's look:

The Jeffersons has its rarities as well. The 1994 and 1997 special proofs have far lower mintage than the 1909 s vdb. The only reason Jeffersons are cheaper to collect is so many more collect Lincolns! But that's the nature of collectibles!
