Hello fellow Lincolneres can anybody tell me how many times the obverse design on the Memorial cent has been changed. Cheers sirk "Be first to hear a whisper, beause when it turns to shouting you will be too late to make a difference"
I'm not sure how many times, but I know that in 1969 the Mint Created a new master die. There were changes in the date within the years 1960, 1970, 1974 and 1982.
A question I see come up from time to time is..."What is a 1955 poors mans double die?" Thats one for the newer collectors you haven't addressed.
Hey that is a good one. I rushed to my two editions of coppercoins books and no photo of that. I have almost a roll of those. Seldom take photos of coins but if you have a 1955 cent note the last 5 looks doubled at the far right. Occationally the second 5 also is blurred looking also. From what I know, not a lot, that is the poor man's double die.
Just Carl, I see a picture of the poor man's doubled die for 1955 on page 197 of the second edition of Charles Daughtrey's "Looking Through Lincoln Cents"- is that one of the books you mean by "coppercoins books"?
No thank you :high5: You pointed out a small glitch in the changes to the forum that I had not noticed. That's what caused the problem.
Not a bad idea. Keep in mind that I have only been working on my site for about a week now. That is something that I probably will address somewhere. If you ever look through tons of wheat pennies you will notice that same time of "doubling" of the last digit or two on other dates like 1953. These of course are not "doubled dies", just worn dies that were over polished. Brad www.lincolncentresource.com
1990-95v 1997 I have noticed on many adjacent years subtle changes to the look of Abrahams head this being a typical one the 1990-95 all have quite a full crop of hair just about an inch from the shoulder line .Where as the 1997 has a deep > shaped indent in the same place .Is this a trait for all lincolns .Do they modify and just not tell anyone unless its noticed. Cheers guys Rich "Be first to hear a whisper, beause when it turns to shouting you will be too late to make a difference"
OOoopps. That is what us old people say when we screw up. Yes that is it. How could I sit here with the book in front of me and not see that. Just very, very old I guess.
When I found this I searched the internet for a picture to compare it to. The best I could do was some poor eBay pics.
Brad, thanks for the great site. I just received my first 1909-S over horizontal S, RPM #2. I'll get to posting a pic tonight I hope, would like an expert opinion. THANKS !!! Jack:bow:
