    Photo of coin.
Photo of coin on scale that has not been recalibrated +6/10 of a gram.

Kentucky, you can use the "tare" to increase your scale by .6 of a gram,
and it would show a zinc 2.5g 1983 as 3.1grams.

Normally a "tare" is used to reset the scale to zero when you put a container on it that you wish to adjust out. Taring 0.6 g would be a pain. You would first have to put exactly 0.6 g on there.

It would take 5 seconds to do it. I have some very small silver rings that weigh less than a gram. And if you don't have it ready made, you can just cut little pieces of paper until your scale reads 0.6g. Then tare.
Then your 2.5 zinc cent goes on, and the scale reads 3.1.

Chewmassa Now where could my pipe be?

Taring with .6g on your scale would cause whatever you're weighing to show as .6g LESS not more. So a zinc cent would read 1.9g. Unless I'm missing something.

OK good point, I thought you could also set it for + as well as -.
Meanwhile, still waiting on this 1983 copper (cough, cough).

I really doubt it is gonna show. There are a lot of people searching for them, But, I'd have to say, most have been collected, and It, would be pretty rare to find one in the wild.
I am sure @Rare-Tim could produce one!

    Quick fact...a dollar bill weighs 1.0 g and a nickel weighs 5.0 g

Yes I know that, but that's 6 grams not 6 tenths of a gram.
