Sorry, but it appears as die deterioration ( due to mainly overuse flattening and pushing the raised areas towards the perimeter). Notice how the lettering on the obverse and LIBERTY is close. If it was a true doubled die ( the imaging would be the same height) where as in the first 2 images, you can see that the image closest to the edge (3) is much flatter. So not a real doubled die. Below you can see a true doubled die coin and notice that because the die was struck twice , when it struck blanks both were the same height and appears merged. Jim p.s. Ones such as yours are seen in enormous numbers on ETSY, EBay, etc. because the seller does know , or knows but doesn't care, its the $$$
They say Thanks! Question? Do you have a Loupe? Try that first on your coins. Microscopes tend to make thing worse in some cases.
QUICK QUESTION This coin was from an uncirculated roll. So does that mean if I find any more 1963-D cents that I think is a DDO it will likely be DIE DETERIORATION???
Anyone you find like the one you posted it's in the cherry picker guide and they're worth about 15 bucks a piece Carry on
I am glad someone posted it. @Twyzm your looks like a later die stage than what is shown on VV. Nice find!
I’m glad Rick was able to see it, ‘cuz I couldn’t from those pics. Too much glare and pixelation along with poor illumination. No wonder so many of us missed it. Good job to @Rick Stachowski …imo…Spark
I have been looking thru a $50 bag of 63D hoping to find one. At one time there was a 73' that looked almost the same, but it was debunked.
Well, I still think it is die deterioration doubling as per the first several photos. The 63D Rick mentions I do not believe is the same die as this one, but best wishes on it. Jim
I now see what you were looking at. the raised area around the outside of the 3. The doubling is on the inside of the 3. Being a late die stage it is common to show die deterioration. This coin also has the correct MM position.
Yes, I do have one of these DD myself, black arrow indicating such to me. However the top of the 3 doesn't seem to me as such on the presented coin. If it is a DD, I can understand the low prices as they are quite a number of them, Jim
