Would it be good to send to certify this penny?

Hey man, your penny is probably worth about 50 Cents to a dollar or two, if that. It’s a nice find, but as a rule of thumb, only coins valued at $300 and up are worth sending in to get certified. Pop it in a flip and add it to the pile!

If it is the 1982 D copper plated zinc issue it could also be just a split plating issue. If so it should weigh 2.5 grams. If not it should weigh 3.1 grams, in which case in may be an RPM.

It can't weigh 3.1 grams. Denver only made the small date 1982 in zinc.
So far only 1 copper has been found.

I still do not weigh it yet since I have to go to work and I'll weigh it tomorrow. Thank you for your comment!

Here is the balance calibrated to 0.0g with which to verify the weight of my 1982D DDO coin and what weight 2.53g I hope this can help a better appreciation of this finding. I searched on the web if someone had found something similar to my currency but nothing was found. All your opinions are well received!

They only made zinc cents in the small date variety Denver 1982. 2.5 grams
A 3.1 gram coin is probably worth around $20,000.
