    It would be great to find out who that was.
    Problem is, the name Smith doesn't narrow it down much.

    Even the JT initials don't really help with a common name like Smith.

    I did a quick search and came up with two candidates.

    There is a famous lawyer named J.T. Smith.

    or

    Maybe this guy's nickname was J.T.

    Tiberius James Smith is a well-regarded Star-fleet captain and current commander of the USS Nevada. He is widely credited with solving the murder of Federation Ambassador Rylari Yarn and the victory at the Battle of Grazer.
