I was looking through a friends wheat cents today and found this. First for me. I think it was a 50's. What came apart for this to happen?

Looks like a normal circulated coin that is corroded with the "L" worn into the rim.

"L" tried to make a run for it but "I" reaches out and grabs it while it was struggling to scale the rim! :stop:. I wonder how they stay stuck and move.

It actually looks like the rim was struck with something and it's not the L but the rim moved inward.

I was wondering about the absence of the horizontal part of the L actually. That goo on the I headed towards the rim messes with the visual but I don't see any sign of the horizontal segment of the L. What would the odds be though that what was struck on the rim isn't the vertical part of the L? Confusing one.
