No examples if Reka Devnia, so a relatively scarce coin

Septimius Severus denarii from the "Emesa" Mint continued

Obv:– IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev:– VICT AVG, Victory standing on globe left, holding wreath in right hand, palm in left
    Minted in Emesa, A.D. 194 - 195
    References:– BMCRE -, RIC -, RSC -

This reverse type not listed in any of the major references.

Obv:– IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev:– VI-C-T-OR AVG, Victory walking right, holding trophy in both hands
    Minted in Emesa, A.D. 194 - 195
    References:– RIC 423

    RI%20064hv%20img.jpg
Obv:– IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev:– VICTORIA, Victory standing left engraving AV/G on shield to left with right hand, which is resting on a column, holding palm in left hand. Centre dot.
    Minted in Emesa. A.D. 194-195
Reference:– BMCRE 402, thought to be SE V, CO and AV/VG but from same die pair as this coin. RIC 430 (Rated R citing BM). RSC 703a.

All the coins cite the BM example which is unclear. This example, whilst suffering from the harsh cleaning method (zapped?) is sufficiently clear to make out the correct COS II obverse legend and the AV/G on the shield.
    A rare reverse type.

Septimius Severus denarii from the "Laodicea" Mint

Septimius Severus denarius - RIC -
Obv:– L SEPT SEV PE-RET AVG IMP - II, Laureate head right
Rev:– VICTOR AVG, Victory walking right, holding wreath in left hand, trophy in right
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare, A.D. 194
    References:– RIC -. BMCRE -. RSC -.
    Ex Barry Murphy Collection

    normal_RI%20064fm%20img.jpg

Obv:– L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP VII-I, Laureate head right
Rev:– ARAB ADIABENIC, Victory advancing left holding wreath and palm (palm missing due to engraver error)
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare. A.D. 196-197
    Ref:– Cohen -, BMCRE -, RIC -.

The reverse refers to victory over Niger. To hide the fact that this was a civil war, it is phrased as victory over Arabs and Adiabenians, who aided Niger's cause.

RIC IV 466 has the same reverse legend, listed as IMP VII but as Curtis Clay points out this legend is probably a mis-reading of IMP VIII probably cause by the last I being after the bust as on this example. RIC 466 however is Victory with wreath and trophy whereas this type is Victory with wreath and palm. RIC and BMCRE cite Cohen 52 (5 Francs) for this coin.

Obv:- L SEPT SEVER PERT AVG IMP VIII, Laureate head right
Rev:- VICTOR AVG, Victoria standing right, left foot on globe?, holding shield with left hand, resting on knee, inscribing with right hand
    Minted in Laodicea-ad-Mare.

    Thanks.
These are just the very edited highlights of the Victory types from my Septimius Severus collection.
I just thought it might be interesting to see a range of Victory types from a single emperor in one thread.

Out of curiosity, how many Sep Sev coins to you own? I always look at the SS coins at auction thinking of you and Doug. I always think I might find one you guys miss, but I doubt it.

I don't - even if you count my Julias.

However, I would like to show what I consider a special Nike. The coin is not all that nice but here she is actually doing something as opposed to walking, holding, sitting etc.

Syracuse AE20 214-212 BC Nike slaying a bull. I would appreciate hearing if someone would care to explain why Nike is shown in this way on this occasion. Usually you see her with a wreath of peace or trophy showing the end of hostilities. Who else has a violent Nike? ...or is this some other winged figure???

This isn't mine but I saw this when visiting the Museum at Caerleon, the Roman City of Isca Silurum in South Wales (about 20 miles down the road from my house). It is a bonze plaque of Victory found in the remains of the city and dates to the 1st Century A.D.

Not me. That's interesting and I would wonder if this is actually Nike as you asked.

A common sacrifice to any god was a bull...
Maybe it was showing that if they sacrificed some to Nike, they would be victorious.

Just an Educated Guess though... Though it would make sense!
