@Alegandron, it's really cool, especially in convergence with the historical context, that this imitates Venetian grossos, which were already imitating earlier Byzantine motifs. Sort of cultural chickens coming home to roost.
Edit: What am I saying... here's one of Jacopo Tiepelo, Doge 1229-1249. Sorry for the double (Edit: Oops, make that quadruple) vision.

Apart from the ones with Madonna and baby Jesus, (which I think are not meant for this tread:D) here is one of mine showing Jesus:

    1 Zecchino (Dukat), Venice 1400 - 1413
    20 mm, 3.548 g
    Friedberg 1230, Biaggi 2858

Ob.: MICHAEL STEN S•/M•/V•/E/N/E/T/I St. Mark standing at left presenting staff with pennant and DVX vertically at top to doge kneeling at right, at center top D//V//X//
Rev.: SIT•T•XPE•DAT•Q•TV / REGIS•ISTE•DVCAT full length facing Christ within beaded ellipse lined with stars.

Michele Steno, (Michiel Sten in Venetian Language; 1331 - December 26, 1413) was a Venetian statesman who served as the 63rd Doge of Venice from December 1, 1400 until his death.
