From the same dealer I picked up the 1833 H-10 I found this one. A bargain at $20! Even more so I believe after I got it home to scope it out. Now there are two known varieties of the 1849 H-10. both are over dates. One is a Valentine #1 9/8 the other is an Valentine 2 and also an 9/8 variety.

Many have been lead to believe that that these are an 9 over an inverted 6, some believe it to be an 9 over an inverted 9.

I believe the coin pictured to be an FS-H-10 -1849-302 see my images.

Now the half dime is an Valentine #2 is the variety. The diagnostics are as follows for the V-2 Obv. Numbers rather slender, open date.tha'ts not high. The 9 shows a defect in its opening.

Rev. My scope does shoe me bits and pieces of what I believe to be parts of an 8 that has been polished off,or worn due to age of this coin.

However what sells me on this being the variety is the shape of the raised medal inside the 9's loop. It's located and matches the the same as the image in the CPG 4th ed. Vol.ll page 9. I would grade this coin as an Vf. coin showing wear on its high spots but still plenty of meat on the bone.If this is by chance the Variety it's one of the Seated Liberty collectors favorites variety.
