1911 Matte Proof Lincoln (PCGS PR65BN). I just bought this from Rick Snow at Eagle Eye Coins. Rick bought this coin from a collector about a month ago. It was in a PCGS Old Green Holder graded PR65BN. Rick thought this had upgrade potential (to PR66BN) so he sent this in to PCGS; however PCGS didn't agree (at least at this submission) and gave it a new Cert Number at the same grade. (Note that PCGS's new "Reconsideration Service" could have helped Rick retain the OGH if the coin didn't upgrade -- I need to tell Rick about that.)

I have to say that in-hand this coin is stunning and I cannot begin to capture the great violet color through the slab plastic. I snapped this photo this afternoon with my iPhone; however the coin is even more vibrant and colorful in hand, it's spot free, has fantastic gloss, and is one of the more hammered early MPLs that I have ever come across. The obverse strike actually reminds me of what you'd see on the highly detailed 1916's. I think this is one of the most beautiful "colorfully toned" 1911 MPLs that I've seen (certainly top 3 or 4 for that year, IMHO).
