I have no idea why PCGS put an RB on this one, it's clearly a BN with no original mint fresh copper color displayed. When I first saw this 1959 raw, I thought that perhaps the soft blue color might have been residue from an old dip. So I submitted this Secure Plus so it could be sniffed for illegal chemicals. Obviously it passed. I was tempted to give this a soak in acetone to remove anything that might be on the surface of the coin before submitting; but now I am glad I didn't mess with it.

The 1963, less rare than the 1959 for color but another difficult year, graded PR67RB. This one actually has a tiny bit of copper color (reverse top), so I will let PCGS's RB designation slide. This 1963 is the first PCGS graded Lincoln Proof that I have seen with silver toning blending softly into other toning colors without hard borders (smooth transitions of color always adds to visual appeal IMHO). I have seen other Lincoln proofs with silver toning but all the ones I've seen (til now) were either solid silver on one side, or had a hard border of silver to copper. I thought for a while that silver color on a Lincoln was really simply zinc that hadn't been mixed properly in the 5% zinc, 95% copper alloy -- but that's clearly not happening here.

[/QUOTE]
