[QUOTE="giorgio11, post: 1375700, member: 17094"]1972-D Kennedy Half No FG FS-901 AU55 PCGS

1972-D Kennedy Half No FG FS-901 AU55 PCGS RARE! We can't believe our good fortune in having found not one, but two upgrades to our original coin, an AU53 we had in our Registry Set. We were fortunate to acquire a second AU53, and both an AU55 and an AU58, from another collector who obviously searched through a LOT of Kennedys to make these, and we were glad to pay his price, which was substantially lower than what we paid for our original piece. We have put the AU58 into our Registry Set. Make no mistake, folks, these are INCREDIBLY RARE BOTH IN AU and MINT STATE. The 1972-D No FG is also a quite misunderstood variety, as many examples of the issue show no trace of the FG due to grease and debris that slowly clogged the die. PCGS will NOT certify those coins. The true 1972-D No FG coins were created through extensive die polishing, visible on both the date area on the obverse and the tail area on the reverse, that removed all trace of the FG. PCGS will ONLY certify those few pieces as the FS-901 1972-D No FG. Please take a look at the reverse closeup on this AU55 piece, and the obverse on the AU58 in our Registry Set, for a better idea of what we mean. This AU55 is certified with the six-digit FS-901 PCGS variety number. PCGS gives this coin a Registry Set weight of 5 points, indicating how rare it is. Thanks a lot to our collector friend for the nifty closeups. PCGS Population: 2 in 55, 5 finer (2/2012). Only two examples are known in Mint State, both MS63.
