Photos were a bit dark, which probably scared away a few potential bidders, but I could tell this thing had a clean cheek. Being CAC'd also helped in my decision to bid. Had it in my "Watch List" since day one when the "Buy-it-Now" price was set at $127.00. Well, that same night, I guess the seller was lookin' to make a quick buck, so he dropped the price to $99.00. The grade NGC has designated is, IMO, very conservative. The strike is<b> <u>fantastic</u></b>... The cheek is nice... No deep abrasions whatsoever. Not too sure what held it back, especially having prooflike (nearly DMPL) contrast on the obverse, and a semi-prooflike reverse. You typically see 1879, 1880, and other mid-1880's San Francisco Morgans with contrasting surfaces, as well as being "starred" by NGC, but seldom do you see one dated 1878. So, being CAC'd, being "starred", and having contrast, I simply couldn't pass-it-up. <img src="styles/default/xenforo/clear.png" class="mceSmilieSprite mceSmilie1" alt=":)" unselectable="on" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p>Hope to have these imaged with Todd (blu62vette) of BluCC Photos in the upcoming week.
