I've had this coin for months but just getting around to sharing it. Bought as Anticoh cheap, but when it arrived, I found it was a Tet. from Laodicea ad Mare, which is even better! AR Tetradrachm Laodicea ad Mare, Seleucis and Pieria O: AYT K M A ANTΩNEINOC CEB, laureate head right. R: ∆HMAPX EΞ YΠATOC TO ∆, facing eagle, head left holding wreath in beak, star between legs. 27mm 12.5g Prieur 1179
So not really a new coin, but I did put it through as a regrade and got a scratch free holder. Love seeing the entire coin!! Old scratched up coin in holder New scratch free holder
She's a dirty old girl and has had a hard life, but she will now live on in my collection - which is now 100% complete - Liberty Nickels - circulated. She's a PCGS details grade G, so I don't have a lot of hope for anything more, but the collection is finally complete - at long last. I think the first thing I'll do is crack her out and give her an acetone bath to arrest the corrosion unless someone has another idea?
Vam 1L, Sold unattributed... My first top pop vam (that I know of) A very unique feature only found on this and 1 other vam... With only about a dozen or two known in all grades! http://www.vamworld.com/1921-S+VAM-1L
Referring to the lines at the denticles near STATES? That is pretty cool. VAMWorld refers to the denticles near DOLLAR not being fully struck, but yours actually look pretty good.
My latest acquisitions are technically not coins, but they should have been. The other shares a reverse with this one: These designs were entered into the competition for the (at the time) new golden dollar. We could have had these instead of Sacajawea. The reverse design actually made it to the finals of the competition.
Considering how it has a current melt value of $5.45, I would say $7.50 is quite fair. And, yes, it is very pretty.
That's a very stunning Ike! I was looking at my collection today. That is by far an impressive strike.
That is one heck of a proof. Too bad they were so mass produced. Much nicer than the one in my 1976 proof set.
Thanks guys. Yeah I saw it and passed it up. Then regret happened and I went back a couple of days later and bought it with a bunch of circulated hole fillers and got a nice discount on the whole purchase. I also got a 73-S and a 74-S Ike, but though they're also pretty, they're just clads. Wasn't going to buy any Ike proof coins, but... once you decide on one, well you just want them all! You know how it is. All of my non-proof Ike's are circulated. They're hard to find though, so I figured buying proofs was the thing to do. I am still looking for the 73-P and 73-D.
