Not a coin but still pretty sweet. The toning is amazing on this!

These medals have a tendency to tone as such.....I have a pony express from the same time frame early 60's. I say the envelope they came in is the culprit and if I'm correct god I like to have a couple thousand of them. Great tone.

1869 Two Cent Piece (PCGS PR65BN). Just nabbed this on Sunday. It might be one of the most beautiful Two Centers I've ever come across. This was the first U.S. Coin to carry the motto "In God We Trust", which first started on U.S. coinage in 1864 during the final years of the Civil War. However not all U.S. coins carried that motto until 1938, after the Buffalo Nickel ended its run.

The Shield design on the obverse (by Longacre) was modeled after the Great Seal of the United States. The vertical lines (6 lines and 7 spaces) in the bottom part of the shield represent the 13 original colonies -- and the horizontal lines at the top of the shield represent the Federal Government (Congress). So together it's supposed to symbolize the strength of our nation. The crossed arrows represent nonaggression, but imply readiness against attack. The laurel branches, taken from Greek tradition, symbolize victory. The vertical lines were supposed to represent red, clear areas white and horizontal lines blue, thus the shield is (in theory) colored red, white and blue and is meant to evoke the American flag.

The coin was not very popular with the masses, which led to its short run (only 10 years total) and steadily falling mintage totals every year. All Two Cent Pieces were produced at the Philadelphia mint, therefore no mintmarks are found.

Last year I had acquired my first white whale, a issue of Severus Alexander minted a few months before his death & this year I have finally acquired another.

I had built a small sub-set of Lucilla denarii & over time, there was 2 I needed, "Laetitia" and "Concordia Standing". Laetitia I acquired on ebay, but the "Concordia Standing" was the type I needed last and looked literally every day at my usual haunts to find one in my price range.

A few weeks ago one surfaced on Vcoins & my price range and now it's in my collection.

Thanks to a fellow CT collector for acquiring it for me till some health issues settled in the family.

So my second white whale is captured!

Welcome chuck. I think it's au but possibly details. However, I'm a morgan guy so don't take that to the bank. The gold guys will pop in and give you a more experienced answer :)

I think it shows wear around the top of the cap/crown and on the eagle wings. AU is my guess.

1850-O $2.5 AU55 composite.jpg I've been watching this issue for some time - hard to find one with a good strike, let alone a full grade. This is graded AU55. I think it's legit. The strike is one of the best, if not the best for the year and mint.
