Hello, I am returning to the hobby after having left it 12 years ago. This is my welcome back coin. I got it a month ago. I just purchased an 1819 50 cent piece, but that won't be arriving for another 4 days.
You might as well close and lock the thread, as nothing anyone else post after this one can hold a candle to it.....one word WOW! Where do you find this stuff ?
Taking a break from US coins in terms of new purchases for a while, so you can see my new acquisitions on the dark side--going for the full set of Mexican 1 onzas.
My 2 sets arrived today and off to the plastic this afternoon. On the RP$ Jonson looks similar to WC Fields
Mine actually arrived on Saturday but I didn't go to the PO then. I must say both set are really nice, and capsules open real easy
And some people think all the coins have been graded and cherried by now. There's still awesome finds out there!
Here is the link to the Ebay listing I won for the 1819/8 Drapped Bust Liberty Fifty Cent. What do you guys think? I'm just re-entering the hobby after a long absence, so I'll take all constructive criticisms so I can better learn what to purchase and not purchase in the future. I know I paid at the high end range of what these coins are worth (unfortunate, but someone else wanted it badly too), and I do notice some slightly uneven toning on one side of the face of the coin...but I don't think it looks too bad. Anyway, let me know what you think. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1819-8-50C-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Yesterdays show finds were pretty exciting first was this VF+ 1829 Bust Half dime. That turned out to be a Valentine #7 Obv. Medium open date ; low. Rev. S under S, the UN is under Of.all letters in legend ED,TE,& MERI touch. One arrow-head touches shaft,Arrows not close to A. Large 5C slightly high,Short top on the 5, and tied to the die marriage of 1830-9.
The next little find was a nice SL HD an 1856 o Valentine # 2 in EF.- 40 the images don't do justice as it's in a scratched slab. Obv. An open and even ,well placed date,1 low,A faint die break runs through the right hand stars. The loop of the 5 is closed. Rev.Medium lettering , Medium o slightly high.
I would rather have a Nixon coin and medal, but I have to admit that's some nice LBJ memorabilia there.
