Although they're not really "mine", I did acquire them to take pictures of them for a friend who's selling his collection. Still thought I'd share them beauties! The color was impossible to capture! Semi proof like surfaces!
Latest addition to the collection. I think it's beautiful and PCGS did an amazing job on the photography catching the toning and highlighting the surfaces.
Its a pattern coin made by the US Mint showing a design that was never adopted. This one is stuck in silver and is showing one variation of the 25C Standard Silver Quarter, there were many iterations of these with small changes to the obverse and reverse. They were also struck in Aluminum and copper just as patterns but if adopted were intended to be silver. This is the J-912 (Judd) and is the finest graded by PCGS. Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoyed a little background info!
There are over 1982 Judd Patterns and they are all beautiful. Look them up sometime you wont be dissappointed.
Well, I hate holding this thread captive, with IHC after IHC (seems the IHC's I'm looking for have been popping up for auction lately), BUT, here's my latest, an 1860 IHC. I don't care for carbon flecks AT ALL, but sometimes, there's not a whole lot you can do, when you are locked into a budget. Even with the few carbon flecks, which are mostly on the reverse, I can still dig this coin, and am happy to put her into my 'early IHC' set. This is seller's image, I'll add to this post when it's 'in-hand'. Any comments, fire away!
Absolutely correct you are, Skyman, in regard to the strike on the 1864 CuNi. I specifically asked the seller if it was the strike or possibly, a scuff or something to that effect, on the slab itself. Seller said it WAS a scuff on the slab. WRONG!!! Strike IS soft/mushy, on both, obverse and reverse (even the ribbon's knot on the reverse is mushy....). It's already on it's way back to the seller (contemplating on whether or not to leave the seller a neg, seeing how he lied about the slab condition making the strike look mushy/soft), and I've got a replacement already. It's really too bad, if the strike was 'solid', that coin, in that OGH, it would have been a great coin to own.....with a solid strike, I could see a 'bean' on that coin, easily, but, it'll never be.....
My dad comes home today with a wheaty (1928 vg-ish) he got from a store. He's not a collector, but is nice enough to know an old coin when he sees one and hands it to me (mostly out of forced habit).
Sorry, but my guess would be either recolored or oiled. If oiled, it might get 65+- depending on luster.
Way too young for my collection, but 1981 is a special year for me. 1981 P 5C struck on a damaged 1C planchet. Fair price and 5X eBay Bucks!
